Hi BHEL Aspirants,
Last Three days, i’m getting lot of queries about how to crack ET exam.
Some People are working late evenings, Some are working in project sites & even students just passed out also asking guidelines for a 30 day crash planning….
So, i decided to chart a plan useful for everybody with reference books & Sites and exam strategies.
The first basic thing everybody to understand is “BHEL Written test mark criteria is changed”.
Weightage in Marking is given below:
- Technical – 70% of your scoring
- Quantitative Aptitude – 30% of your scoring.
After discussing with my friends, the below reference books are suggested for BHEL ET – Mechanical Exams.
Technical (Mechanical) – Books
- Mechanical Engineering (Objective) by R.K.Jain
- Mechanical Engineering (Objective) by R.S.Khurmi ———- Preffered because both objective questions & concepts are available
Technical (Electrical) – Books
- power system by c.l.wadha
- Machines by thereja
Both are good books… it has objective ques too…..
Technical (Electronics) – Books
- GATE Electronics & Communication - By R K Kanodia
- ECE objective book for ST – by Galgotia & M.Handa
Quantitative Aptitude – Books
- Quantitative Aptitude by R S Agarwal ——— For Beginners
- Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma ——— For Shortcuts
- for aptiude must read :-
- basic mathematics formulae;
- tables 1 to 20;
- ratios’- 1/2;1/3,2/3; 1/4,2/4,3/4; ..till 10 must…..
- squares upto 25
- cubes upto 25
- GRE preparation book
- Mechanical – 1 (MECHANICAL QUESTIONS)
- Mechanical – 2 (MECHANICAL QUESTIONS – 2)
- http://entrance-exam.net/gate-papers/

- Download last 5 years question papers with solutions of GATE & IES (for Mechanical) and CAT Question papers (Quantitative Aptitude) with solutions.
- Starting from first day, every alternate day write one model exam with the downloaded question papers ( 2 continuous tests on Technical and one test on Aptitude in series) and compare your answers with the solutions.
- Find out your strong and weak areas and next day – focus on one weakest area of Technical (for Quantitative Aptitude – 2 areas) and study properly the concepts and important formulae once for all.
- Next time, when you give model exam – try to concentrate on the studied portion first & try to score as much as possible.
- if any doubts or wrong answers on the studied portion, clear all your doubts and understand the solution – the same day itself.
- Find the second weakest area and follow the same above steps.
- by this way you would have explored 10 different topics in 30 days for mechanical and 10 areas in Aptitude.
- Don’t forget to take some important notes on difficult questions or complex formulas for last day revision.
- If time Permits – try speed test on aptitude from online sites like http://www.tenaday.co.in/
- Study some basic in Nuclear Physics and Basic Electrical & Mettalurgy
- Technical Part of Q. Paper is having more weightage on marks but relatively difficult to solve problems
- Aptitude part of Q.Paper is having less weightage on marks but easy to solve relatively
- So plan for 60% of your test time (90 minutes) for technical and 40% (60 minutes) for Aptitude.
- Target : no of question to be answered right with full confidence is 160 (80 + 80)
- 10 to 20 questions can be given a hit for chances
- All questions are solvable easily if enough time is given in exam, but the check point is your time limit.
- one question in 35 seconds.
- so try as much as direct answers or theory questions
- keep the complex solvable questions aside.
- till now all questions are having same marks only
- Study Arun sharma’s easy shortcuts in the above mentioned books.

Will u share the answer key for the Mechanical model paper 1 and 2 ?
September 6, 2011 at 8:01 PM |
Hi guys,
one of my colleague engineer shared some model questions with me to publish.
no keys are available with us.
we don’t have time to do solve the questions, sorry !!!

Thanks for quick respone. your effort is appreciated and guidance is excellent.
I have an doubt,
For mechanical discipline, Technical section consist of 120 questions right!
In that 120 technical questions, will it consists of Mechanical engg 60 questions and general engg 60 questions?
And in general engg, what kind of question will they ask? and what will be the question pattern?
will those general engg question is common to all the discipline (i.e) question will be same for all the discipline (Mechanical/electrical/electronic)?
Is that general engg question belongs to those subjects
( mechanical or electrical or electronic or all)?
Please guide me.

Almost you guessed the right pattern.
General Engg consists of :
1. Basic Electrical
2. Basic Electronics
3. Physics
4. Nuclear Physics
5. Metallurgy
6. Basic Mechanical

Hi all,
Hope you all had done exams well.
All the best for your Interview

For Mechanical, Most of technical questions came from last year Gate paper. Thanks ulti4u for your guidance
